The magical summer nights run away way too fast. I finished my summer job in Stockholm the last of July and travelled to Finland to spend some time with my family before the exchange. I had been enjoying my leisurely days almost precisely for a week when my mobile pinged. Fed up with the endless (and often so unnecessary) notifications I was kind of ready to throw my Samsung out the window if Facebook thought once more that I would be interested in buying a sofa someone was selling at “Vasastan byt, ge bort, köp och sälj”.
All I wanted to do was to sleep, eat and run. Mostly just sleep. For my surprise, the notification was from a journalist friend who had tagged me to an interesting article by Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat. The article talked about how big deal fashion, style and beauty are in Seoul. My brain started working. My love for art, design and fashion together with these thoughts started to form a new idea. Especially the small Finnish fashion brands have always fascinated me and I have been frustrated with the fact that too few people know about these talents hiding here up in the North.
This year Finland turns 100 years old and I decided to suggest a fun way to promote our beautiful country and its creative talent in one of the most interesting cities in the world. Wouldn't it be exciting if during my stay I could wear as much Finnish design as possible, share stories about Finnish creativity and photos combining the Nordic coolness with the heat of the big city streets? I was very happy to find out that FECC, Ivana Helsinki, Vestiarium, Vietto, YCM and YO ZEN felt as inspired and wanted to join me to combine Nordic style with my adventures in South-East Asia.
This blog will live and evolve with me and hopefully become a combination of adventures, surprising stories, new ideas and learning topped with a Nordic sparkle.
I hope you will join me for the journey. I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas so feel free to leave a comment. <3
